Ice Cream and Gelatos

Hello again.
Yes, this week is a double blog of postings. Since this weekend is going to be hot and sunny, I thought I should provide information about places to purchase ice cream or gelatos. I’ll keep it short. I highly recommend Marble Slab Creamery. My favorite flavors are lemon custard (hello!), key lime (air high five!) and cinnamon (rolling). You can add your choice of toppings. Yet I’m a believer that you usually don’t require any toppings to enhance the flavors.
Next are gelatos, please note that I will never mention any gelatos sold in supermarkets. It’s completely different because they have no premium flavor. Check out Crepe De Licious, there are various locations within the GTA. Some locations will have a gelato section, I go to the one at the Bramalea City Centre. Favorite flavors are mango, tiramisu, lemon and vanilla bean.  To top it off, the owner has an accent that sounds Parisian, although he is not French Parisian.  Honorable mention is Ice Cream Café in Brampton at Main & Queen. My sister told me about this place. I always wanted to check it out, but was too busy. Ok folks, glad I finally went to the Ice Cream Café. I had a mango gelato, can I say holler? It was so yummy.  So there you have it, the scoops of the day.  I know, cheesy ending.
Cheers

Crostoli

Hello all!

When I need some groceries, I sometimes pass by Fuda Fine Foods at Martin Grove and Hwy 7. One day I saw crostolis and thought that I should purchase a few, I asked the clerk behind the counter if she tried crostolis? She said she frequently has them. She gave me a few crostolis to try before I purchased them. HELLO!! DELICIOUS! I purchased my crostolis, and that evening enjoyed each one with a cup of tea. Warning!!! Cannot have one crostoli only, they are hard to resist.

Bread Pudding

Bonjour!
I have a craving for Michel’s Baguette Bakery Cafe’s bread pudding at Yorkdale. Anybody know of places that serve bread pudding in the GTA? I had some made by a family member, but it didn’t impress me. It’s about the wow, baby! No wow, not worth mentioning.
Overall, must give Yorkdale’s Michel’s applause because its ambience is so French, oh, la, la. I really feel it with the decor that I’m at a French cafe and the people watching. I’ve been to other Michel’s, but disappointed with the food not up to par in terms of freshness and selection is limited.
When I’m at Yorkdale’s Michel’s I will purchase croissants and danishes for my parents. Tim Horton’s buttered croissants, please, there’s no comparison to Michel’s and cafes in France. If you are at Yorkdale, please check out Michel’s, they even have great lunch combos.

Sweet Suprises

Hello!
I have a few delicious updates. I recently tried a tiramisu that was divine. My sister’s mother in-law, Rita had a small get together. Rita is a serious contender in the baking department. Anyways she presented us with a buffet of wonderful fruits and desserts. But the pièce de résistance was the tray of tiramisu. Okay, I wondered about this dessert since she never made it, but she announced that since she didn’t have time, her friend, Maria was kind enough and prepared it. Well, I started off with a small slice just in case I did not like it. I was amazed…it was the best tiramisu I had in years. I had tiramisu from the pros of baking previously, but nothing like this!!!! I asked Rita if her friend made this often. She replied that Maria makes tiramisu once a year. This woman must make it more frequently; even for a limited time only, she can make serious cash. That night was all about the tiramisu, tea and great company.
I was at Lisboa Bakery & Grillhouse a few days ago in downtown Brampton. I purchased their flan which is a caramel custard and their coconut pudding cake. In total I purchased four slices. Of course, I did not purchase for myself only. The consequence of that is more time at the gym. Actually the best solution was to share the desserts, that day my parents had the honor of tasting them.
Okay, the flan was very good, the caramel was generous. I thought my mom was the Queen of Flan. Lisboa Bakery & Grillhouse showed it how it’s really is. Ouch! Recognize mom. Now to the coconut pudding cake, I usually avoid any foods that consist of coconut, it does not agree with my stomach. But an inner voice was telling me to give it a try. How can avoid my inner voice? Ha-ha, ha. Can’t say a negative thing about this dessert, the bottom is baked coconut to perfection, followed by a spongy vanilla cake and finalized by caramelized custard. Hello!! Caramel Day! I returned a few days later and purchased one of each. The young woman that served me a few days ago served me again. Bonuses are the generous portions and the service is friendly. Now that’s a real treat!

I decided to blog about an aspect of my life that I’m passionate about- pastries. I l-o-v-e pastries. I have loved sweets since I was a young child. I love pastries so much that there a couple of cafes that address me by name.

I love to check out cafes and try out their selections. Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to purchase pastries from the super market, but it’s not quite comforting as sitting down inside a cafe with tea or coffee and delicious pastries.

So I hope those that share a love for pastries will enjoy my discoveries in my sweet world.

Enjoy
